It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
